James Howard Sinnott, an attorney from Suwanee, had his law license suspended as he appeals his federal conviction related to a scheme that allowed investors to falsely claim over $1 billion in tax deductions. Sinnott was sentenced to 23 years in prison for his involvement in promoting fraudulent tax shelters alongside Jack Fisher, who received a 25-year sentence and was identified as the mastermind of the operation. The scheme, centered in Georgia, resulted in significant losses to the U.S. Treasury and involved inflated appraisals of conservation easements, leading to a federal indictment with 135 counts against the defendants.
