Atlanta officials announced a decrease in all major crime categories for 2024, with homicides dropping from 135 in 2023 to 127, marking a 6% reduction. Police Chief Darrin Schierbaum attributed this decline to escalating dispute resolutions, domestic violence initiatives, and community engagement programs like Mayor Andre Dickens' No More Campaign. Additionally, the Atlanta Police Department reported a 29% reduction in auto thefts, aided by software updates for Hyundai and Kia vehicles, and improved collaboration with the Fulton County District Attorney's Office, resulting in a 90% conviction rate across various crimes.
