Atlanta Skywatchers Gear Up for July Meteor Showers with Southern Delta Aquariids and Perseids

Avid skywatchers in Georgia can look forward to two major meteor showers this July: the Southern Delta Aquariids from July 28 to August 12, peaking on July 29-30, and the Perseids from August 12 to August 23, peaking on August 12-13. While the Southern Delta Aquariids can yield up to 20 meteors per hour and are best viewed in a moon-free sky looking south, the Perseids, originating from comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, may be diminished this year due to the waning gibbous moon, with optimal viewing in the northeast direction. For the best experience, experts recommend finding a dark location away from city lights and allowing time for eyes to adjust to the darkness.
