East Point Police Shoot Individual After Knife Attack Attempt Amid Mental Health Crisis

On Saturday night, a person was shot by East Point police after attempting to attack an officer with a knife at the Stonetree Apartments. Police were called to the scene around 4:30 p.m. regarding a mentally ill individual who had taken drugs and was in distress. Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, the individual became aggressive, leading to the officer firing a shot that struck the suspect in the lower torso; the suspect was subsequently taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been contacted to investigate the incident.
