Former Cobb County Deputy Indicted for Faking Multiple Sclerosis to Scam Community Donations

Mark Ryan Hampton, a former Cobb County sheriff's deputy, has been indicted on charges of violation of oath by a public officer and violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations act after investigators determined he falsely claimed to have multiple sclerosis to solicit donations for medical expenses. The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation in 2021 following complaints about a social media account linked to Hampton, who was arrested on June 13, 2022. This case follows a recent conviction of another former Cobb deputy for lying to investigators about a vehicle crash.
