Sgt. Daniel Rush, a dedicated member of the Forsyth County sheriff's office for nearly 35 years, passed away at the age of 57 from an undisclosed illness on Monday, surrounded by fellow deputies. Rush is remembered for his heroic actions in 2014 when he confronted an armed assailant at the county courthouse, an act that allowed others to respond and potentially saved lives. After recovering from severe injuries sustained in the incident, Rush returned to duty in 2016 and was honored with multiple awards, including the sheriff's office's Purple Heart.
