Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch Arrested for DUI with High Blood Alcohol Level
Gerald Jay Couch, the longtime sheriff of Hall County, was arrested on February 27 and charged with DUI, failure to maintain a lane, and open container. The 63-year-old sheriff was booked into his own jail and released on bond the same day. His blood alcohol level was recorded at 0.212, which is more than 2.5 times the legal limit of 0.08 in Georgia. Following the arrest, Governor Brian Kemp ordered an investigation into Couch's actions, particularly concerning his use of a county-issued SUV after consuming Four Lokos. Authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding his arrest and whether Couch was performing his duties at the time. The investigation will also examine any potential violations of public safety protocols. Couch has faced scrutiny in the past regarding his conduct, and this incident has raised further questions about his leadership. The Georgia State Patrol is conducting the investigation, and Couch is currently on leave pending the outcome.
