The suspect in a shooting that resulted in a two-hour lockdown of Fort Eisenhower near Augusta on Saturday was apprehended in Meriwether County after nearly fleeing the state. The incident, which left one man dead, occurred at a housing unit on the base, prompting an immediate alert for lockdown procedures. Authorities reported that the suspect discarded a handgun during a traffic stop initiated by deputies along I-85 South, and he has since been turned over to the U.S. Army's Criminal Investigation Division.
