Psychologist Sentenced for Vehicular Homicide of 5-Year-Old Boy
Michelle Wierson, a psychologist from Avondale Estates, has expressed deep remorse following the unintentional death of 5-year-old Miles Jenness in a 2018 vehicular homicide incident in Decatur. Charged with the crime, she pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, claiming she was experiencing a psychotic break when her Volkswagen collided with the Toyota Corolla that Miles and his father were in. Due to a no-contact order, Wierson was unable to send letters of apology to the victim's family, so she sought a different way to express her sorrow. With the help of a friend, Rev. Kara Russell, Wierson visited Columbia Theological Seminary, where she read her letters of apology aloud before burning them at the foot of a large outdoor cross. The case has been navigating the legal system, with discussions about Wierson's mental health and the circumstances surrounding the incident. As the legal proceedings continue, Wierson's actions and their implications are being closely examined. The community remains engaged in the case, reflecting on the tragic loss and the complexities of mental health issues in legal contexts.
