Georgia sheriffs are challenging county commissioners in court over budget control, claiming excessive oversight hampers their ability to manage their departments effectively. Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams, embroiled in a long-standing dispute with his county's commissioners, filed a lawsuit alleging unlawful interference with his budget decisions, while Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat has also initiated legal action against his commission for obstructing necessary purchases. Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen has indicated he may follow suit after recent budget cuts that he argues threaten staffing and inmate care.
