Surge in Georgia Prison Homicides Raises Alarms as 2025 Nears Record-High Death Toll

Homicides in Georgia prisons are significantly increasing, with the Georgia Department of Corrections investigating 42 suspected homicides in the first six months of this year, nearly two-thirds of last year's total. June was particularly deadly, with nine killings, including that of Dominique Cole at Wilcox State Prison, just months before his release. The state has approved substantial funding to address staffing shortages and improve safety conditions in response to ongoing violence and corruption within the prison system.
