Tragedy Strikes DeKalb County as Special Education Teacher Shot After Family Reunion Celebration

Kaalynn Jackson, a 25-year-old special education teacher from DeKalb County, was shot and killed by her girlfriend, Janai Colbert, 24, during an argument following an Easter gathering on April 8, 2023. Jackson was shot once in the chest and later died during surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital. Colbert has been charged with malice murder and remains in jail without bond, while the family struggles to understand the sudden escalation to violence after a joyful reunion.
