Transforming Lives: Athens Jail Inmates Find Hope and Healing Through Innovative Re-Entry Program

ATHENS — Seventeen men at Athens-Clarke County Jail are participating in a transformative program led by Shane Sims, a former inmate who now helps others navigate their struggles. The eight-week Re-Entry Success Jail Resident Program focuses on personal development through classes on conflict resolution, addiction, and self-reflection, allowing inmates to live in a supportive environment while preparing for life after incarceration. With a history of trauma and past offenses, the participants are encouraged to confront their experiences and develop principles to guide their futures, culminating in a graduation ceremony that symbolizes their progress and hope for change.
