Two women, Christine Abbott, 67, and Donna Slavin, 65, were arrested on Tuesday after nearly 40 dogs were discovered either dead inside refrigerators or malnourished at a home in Gwinnett County. They each face six felony counts and seven misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. Following their arrest, they were booked into the Gwinnett jail, where they remained on Tuesday evening. Their bond conditions prohibit them from having any ownership, custody, care, control, or contact with animals until their case is resolved. The police reported that the conditions of the dogs were alarming, with many found in deplorable states. Investigators are looking into the situation as they assess the living conditions of the animals. The investigation was prompted by concerns raised regarding the treatment of the dogs. The authorities are taking the allegations seriously and are committed to ensuring the welfare of the animals involved.
