Atlanta Sees Significant Drop in Homicides as City Unites to Combat Crime

Homicide rates in Atlanta have significantly decreased, with the city reporting a 32% drop in killings compared to last year, according to data from the Atlanta police department. As of July 19, 2025, there have been 49 homicides, down from 72 during the same period in 2024. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and APD Chief Darin Schierbaum credit collaborative efforts in tackling crime, particularly focusing on guns, gangs, and drugs, while also highlighting the importance of community programs aimed at youth engagement to further reduce violence.
