CARE USA Faces Major Layoffs as Trump Administration Slashes Federal Foreign Aid Funding

CARE USA, the humanitarian organization based in Atlanta, announced significant layoffs affecting hundreds of employees domestically and thousands internationally due to substantial cuts in federal foreign aid under the Trump administration. The organization has seen a reduction of approximately $165 million in USAID grant funding, resulting in the cancellation of 46 aid programs across 32 countries, which previously served nearly 18.4 million people. This funding loss has also impacted other Georgia-based organizations, including the Carter Center and the Task Force for Global Health, leading to layoffs and wage reductions, while raising concerns about the long-term effects on global humanitarian efforts and local infrastructure.
