Braxton Tyree Cotton, 44, of Mableton and former chief of staff for Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens, was found guilty on Friday of lying to investigators about a vehicle crash. Cotton was convicted of two counts of making false statements and was sentenced to five years, with the first six months in confinement. The case was moved to Cherokee County to avoid conflicts of interest, and evidence showed Cotton attempted to mislead law enforcement regarding the circumstances of the crash.
