DeKalb County Detention Officer Fired and Arrested for Assaulting Inmate with Baton on Fourth of July Weekend

A DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office detention officer, Martin Douglas, 50, was fired and arrested for allegedly beating an inmate with a baton over Fourth of July weekend. Charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and violation of oath of office, Douglas reportedly struck the inmate multiple times after the inmate, who has mental health issues, threw feces at him. This incident adds to a troubling trend of jail personnel misconduct in DeKalb County, with several other officers facing similar charges this year.
