DeKalb County Jail will seal broken windows in inmate cells with metal panels as a security measure ahead of winter, according to Sheriff Melody Maddox. The decision follows ongoing issues with inmates vandalizing windows to facilitate the smuggling of contraband, including drugs and cellphones, into the facility. Maddox noted that the broken windows compromise both security and the health of inmates as temperatures drop.
