DeKalb County Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for 2020 Motel Murder Linked to DNA Evidence

Tyler Merritt, a 23-year-old man from DeKalb County, was sentenced to life in prison for the 2020 murder of 50-year-old Wayne Cunningham. A jury found Merritt guilty after evidence, including a cigarette butt with his DNA and a matching firearm, linked him to the shooting that occurred during an argument at a motel on January 26, 2020. Despite the involvement of three other individuals seen with Merritt and Cunningham, no charges have been filed against them.
