Deputies Involved in Fatal Shooting of Chattanooga Man During Vehicle Incident in Northwest Georgia
On Sunday night, deputies in Catoosa County, Georgia, shot and killed 32-year-old Dameion Coonrod of Chattanooga after he allegedly backed his vehicle into one of the officers. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Karen Drive, where deputies responded to reports of gunshots and a woman screaming. After an unsuccessful attempt to subdue Coonrod with a Taser, he fled into a home and then attempted to reverse his SUV, striking a deputy, which led to the officers firing their weapons in response to the threat. Coonrod was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, while the injured deputy has since been released. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.
