DUI Crash Claims Life of 8 Year Old Girl in Dunwoody as Driver Attempts to Flee Scene

An Atlanta man, identified as Jose Alejandro Cuahuizo-Varela, was charged with multiple offenses including felony homicide by vehicle and DUI after a crash in Dunwoody on Saturday night that resulted in the death of an 8-year-old girl. The incident occurred around 9:25 p.m. when a Honda Civic, in which the girl was a passenger, was rear-ended by Cuahuizo-Varela's Toyota Tacoma as it pulled out of the Lacota Apartments on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Cuahuizo-Varela attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by police, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
