Ja'Niyah Herring, a 5-year-old girl from DeKalb County, was tragically killed in May 2021 due to severe abuse by her father, Cedric O'Neal Herring, and his girlfriend, Unchinna Myrick. On October 15, Herring was sentenced to life in prison for murder and cruelty to children, while Myrick received a 30-year sentence after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and cruelty charges. The abuse included whipping and tying Ja'Niyah to a bed, leading to her death from blunt force trauma, which was ruled a homicide.
