Wellstar Health System to pay $4.25 million in data breach settlement

It alleges that Wellstar installed data collection tools from Google and Meta on its public website and the "Wellstar MyChart" patient portal, subsequently sharing the collected data with multiple third parties. From February 19, 2020, to July 22, 2026, about 870,000 individuals had their data exposed due to these practices. The settlement aims to address the claims made by those affected by the data breach. Wellstar's actions have raised significant concerns regarding patient privacy and data security.
