Former Atlanta Police Officer Denied Reinstatement After Fatal Taser Incident Involving Church Deacon

The Atlanta Civil Service Board ruled this week that former police officer Kiran Kimbrough should not be reinstated following his role in the death of 62-year-old church deacon Johnny Hollman during a traffic incident in August 2023. The board found that Kimbrough violated department policy by attempting to arrest Hollman instead of allowing him to speak with a supervisor, which ultimately led to the deployment of a Taser and Hollman's death. Kimbrough, who was fired in October 2023, has denied any wrongdoing and is appealing the decision, while Hollman's family has filed a federal lawsuit and is seeking criminal prosecution against Kimbrough.
