Two former Milton High School basketball players, Cameron Walker and Jonathan Murray, pleaded guilty on October 12, 2023, to reduced charges related to the 2021 shooting death of Kennesaw State student Connor Mediate during a drug exchange in an Alpharetta apartment complex parking lot. Both were originally charged with murder but accepted plea deals for lesser offenses, with Murray sentenced to 40 years to serve 20 and Walker to 40 years to serve 25, each receiving first offender status. During the hearing, both men expressed remorse, and the Mediate family sought the maximum sentence, reflecting on their loss and the impact of the tragedy.
