Forsyth County officials have approved agreements to support a proposed 18,500-seat arena as part of a $3 billion mixed-use project called The Gathering at South Forsyth, aiming to attract an NHL expansion franchise to the area. The agreements stipulate that taxpayer funds will only be committed if the NHL grants a team, with Forsyth County agreeing to provide $225 million in bond financing contingent on this approval. Project leader Vernon Krause remains optimistic about securing an NHL team, emphasizing the project's readiness and the community's support for professional hockey in the region.
