Fulton County Jury Acquits Man in Fatal Shooting of Off Duty Deputy in Self Defense Case
Alton Deshawn Oliver was acquitted of murder and aggravated assault charges on Friday in the December 2022 shooting death of off-duty Fulton County Deputy James Thomas, 24, after claiming self-defense. Oliver testified that Thomas made unwanted sexual advances before he shot him inside Thomas' vehicle.
