Pradeep Tamang, a 25-year-old Gwinnett County police officer, was killed earlier this week during a hotel shooting while attempting to make an arrest. This tragic incident marks him as the first Georgia officer killed in the line of duty this year and the sixth officer from Gwinnett to die in such circumstances. A public procession will take place starting at 12Stone Church, where his celebration of life service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday. The procession will cover a 5-mile route to the Tim Stewart Funeral Home, with attendees invited to line the streets in remembrance. Georgia state and U.S. flags will be flown at half-staff in Gwinnett and at the state Capitol until sunset on Saturday. Tamang's service will be livestreamed, allowing community members to join in mourning. The suspected shooter, 35-year-old Kevin Andrews, has a lengthy arrest history and faces multiple charges, including murder and aggravated assault, after being shot by officers during the incident. Tamang, originally from Nepal, moved to the U.S. in 2008 and graduated from the Gwinnett police academy in 2025. He had a passion for learning, service, and animals, and dreamed of opening an animal sanctuary.
