Georgia Doctor Fined 900000 for Trafficking Endangered Birds and Eggs Including Bald Eagles

Dr. John Waldrop, an orthopedic surgeon from Cataula, Georgia, has been fined $900,000 for trafficking protected birds and eggs, including bald eagles and the critically endangered Nordmann's Greenshank. He was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to forfeit his extensive illegal collection of 1,401 taxidermy bird mounts and 2,594 eggs. Waldrop's co-conspirator, Toney Jones of Eufala, Alabama, received a six-month probation sentence for his role in the illegal activities, which included importing wildlife without the necessary permits from 2016 to 2020.
