Georgia official's husband charged with DUI-child endangerment after hit-and-run
Jason Broce, 43, is facing charges of DUI-child endangerment and multiple other offenses following a hit-and-run incident on October 16 near his home in Bartow County. A state trooper stopped Broce's Ford F-150 shortly before 5:30 p.m. after receiving reports of the driver leaving the scene of a crash. The trooper noted that Broce's vehicle was weaving and crossing lanes before it pulled into a gas station parking lot. Upon exiting his cruiser, the trooper observed Broce's pickup begin to reverse, nearly colliding with the patrol car. Authorities reported that Broce, the husband of Candice Broce, director of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services, had a blood alcohol level four times the legal limit at the time of the incident. The couple has two children, aged 5 and 8, who were in the truck during the crash. The Georgia State Patrol stated that protocols are in place to avoid conflicts of interest if reports are made about agency employees. The incident raises concerns regarding the investigation process involving family members of agency directors. The wreck occurred approximately 20 minutes before the police arrived, and it remains unclear if there were any injuries. The situation has prompted discussions about how the Division of Family and Children Services will manage the investigation in light of Broce's relationship to the agency's leadership.
