Georgia Tech Student Shot Dead in Luxury Apartment Complex Suspected Murderer Waited in Stairwell for Over an Hour

The suspect in the fatal shooting of Georgia Tech student Akash Banerjee at The Connector Apartments on May 18 allegedly stalked the victim for over an hour before the attack, according to Fulton County Magistrate Court records. Nigel Belser, 21, is charged with murder and aggravated assault after he reportedly followed residents into the building and waited in a stairwell, ultimately confronting Banerjee when he returned from a gas station. Belser turned himself in on Sunday and is being held in the Fulton jail without bond as authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the targeted attack.
