Gwinnett County Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Fatal Shooting Over 8 Dollars and Marijuana Deal
On December 12, 2020, Malachi Matthew Perkins, 23, was involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of 16-year-old Davone Burnett in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County. Perkins was convicted of felony murder, aggravated assault, and firearm possession during a felony, and was sentenced to life in prison plus five years without parole. District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson emphasized the tragic loss of Burnett's life, stating that the reckless act was unconscionable and hoped the verdict would provide some justice for the victim's family.
