Home Depot Expands Reach with Major Acquisition of GMS for 5.5 Billion Dollars

Home Depot has reached an agreement for its subsidiary SRS Distribution to acquire Tucker-based GMS Inc., a leading specialty building products distributor, for $5.5 billion. This acquisition is part of Home Depot's strategy to enhance its offerings to professional contractors and expand its distribution network, which will total 1,200 locations and over 8,000 delivery trucks post-merger. GMS, founded in 1971, will continue to be led by its current CEO and leadership team as part of SRS, with the deal expected to close by the end of Home Depot's fiscal year on January 31, 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
