A recent altercation between off-duty Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe and a Midtown bar employee has sparked renewed calls for police accountability in Atlanta. The incident occurred at X Midtown, where Rolfe claimed he was attacked by bar employee Raefeael "Ray" Penrice after a dispute over a drink charge, while Penrice alleged that Rolfe initiated the violence. Penrice was arrested for battery and simple battery but was released shortly after, raising concerns about the Atlanta Police Department's ability to manage its own officers, especially in light of Rolfe's controversial past involving the shooting of Rayshard Brooks in 2020.
