A South Fulton police lieutenant, Charles Cook, who was shot in the line of duty on April 18, is currently hospitalized and "walking with assistance," according to department officials. Cook was injured when he and another officer attempted to stop a man, identified as Rashan Jarvis Cofield, who opened fire, striking Cook multiple times before being killed by returning gunfire. This incident follows a tragic week for South Fulton police, which included the death of Lt. Helio Garcia in a separate on-duty crash.
