James "Bart" Bartholomew Cauthen, a 54-year-old fire battalion chief from Coweta County, was shot and killed in Alabama while assisting a couple whose vehicle had hit a deer. The incident occurred on Sunday when William Randall Franklin opened fire without provocation, resulting in Cauthen's death and injuries to Franklin and the driver. Cauthen's funeral is scheduled for Tuesday at Unity Baptist Church in Newnan, following a procession that honored his service and dedication.
