Atlanta City Council Approves Controversial Skybridge Over MLK Drive Despite Community Backlash

Georgia state lawmakers will soon be able to travel between the state Capitol and a new legislative office building via a $10 million skybridge over Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, following approval from the Atlanta City Council on Monday. The legislation passed 10 to 2 despite opposition from some council members and downtown leaders who argued the bridge would detract from revitalization efforts and mar the Capitol's historic appearance. The elevated walkway is part of a larger $400 million redevelopment of Capitol Hill, aimed at improving safety and accessibility for the public.
