The family of Abari Meade, who died in a hit-and-run incident on I-85 North in Atlanta on May 26, reached a settlement with the suspect's insurer, providing some relief after their loss. Meade, 27, was critically injured when his Kia Optima was struck by a Chevrolet Suburban driven by 59-year-old Godreque Newsom, a former law enforcement officer who has been indicted on multiple charges, including first-degree homicide by vehicle. While the civil case has been settled, Newsom still faces legal proceedings related to the incident, including an abandoned motor vehicle case.
