Atlanta Man Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison for Shooting Incident with State Trooper

Montrez Ballard, a 21-year-old man involved in a shooting with a Georgia State Patrol trooper during a pursuit in Atlanta, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Ballard, who pleaded guilty to possession of a machine gun in October, led police on a dangerous chase on July 21, 2023, where he drove recklessly, confronted the trooper, and fired shots before being apprehended. The trooper was unharmed, and authorities recovered the modified firearm used in the incident.
