Shameta Jones-Harrell was sworn in as the first female police chief for any Cobb County police agency during a ceremony in Austell on March 3, 2023. With a background in law enforcement and a commitment to community policing, she aims to achieve accreditation for the department and promote women's involvement in law enforcement through a mentoring program. Jones-Harrell expressed her dedication to the city, stating, "The city of Austell feels like family to me; it is my second home."
