Parents sue Grady Hospital after daughter's preventable death during practice
The parents of a 15-year-old girl who collapsed at a College Park recreation center have filed a lawsuit against Grady Memorial Hospital and its emergency services. They allege that their daughter's death was "completely preventable" if an ambulance had arrived in time. Amanda Sylvester was pronounced dead at a hospital on December 5, 2024, more than two hours after she fell during a volleyball practice warmup at the Tracey Wyatt Recreation Center. The lawsuit claims that Grady's failure to provide timely emergency transport contributed to her death. Following the incident, the teen's mother drove her to Children's Hughes Spalding Hospital after multiple 911 calls were made. The complaint states that the hospital did not supply an ambulance capable of transport in response to the emergency calls. The family seeks compensation for damages, alleging negligence on the part of the hospital and its emergency services. This tragic event has raised concerns about the response times and protocols of emergency services in the area.
