Chamblee Police Enhance Autism Awareness Training to Improve Interactions with Autistic Individuals

Chamblee police officer Brandi Boddy recently encountered a situation involving an autistic child during a car accident response, prompting her department to hold a two-day specialized autism training in honor of Autism Awareness Month. Chief Michael Dieppa emphasized the importance of equipping officers with skills to recognize and appropriately respond to individuals on the autism spectrum, as encounters are becoming increasingly common. The training, led by Bart Barta, aims to improve interactions and reduce the risk of misunderstandings that could lead to forceful responses in these situations.
