Clarke County Deputy Involved in Shooting During Armed Robbery Chase Near Athens GBI Investigates

On Tuesday afternoon, a Clarke County sheriff’s deputy shot at a suspect near Athens while responding to an armed robbery call in the 400 block of North Avenue. After locating the suspects' vehicle on Commerce Road, a pursuit ensued on foot, during which a deputy discharged their weapon. Both suspects were apprehended and received medical aid, while the GBI has been requested to conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
