On Thursday, Cobb County police officer Matthew Clements Abbott, 36, was arrested and charged with distribution of obscene material, public indecency, and violation of oath by a public officer amid a child exploitation investigation. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation initiated the probe after Abbott was identified in a separate investigation by the Utah Attorney General's Office, leading to a search of his home. Interim Cobb police Chief Dan Ferrell stated that the department has relieved Abbott of duty and is cooperating with ongoing investigations to ensure accountability.
