Detainee Escapes Hospital Custody After Procedure Lapse in Atlanta
Timothy Allen Shane, 52, escaped from Grady Memorial Hospital early on December 1 and was apprehended two days later in Newton County, approximately 40 miles away. Shane had been taken to the hospital after attempting self-harm while in custody at the Rockdale jail. During his hospital visit, he was left without handcuffs following a medical procedure, which officials noted contributed to his escape. Authorities reported that Shane's escape was facilitated by a lapse in security protocols. The police had previously dealt with multiple offenses related to Shane, who had been feeling unwell and was driving under the influence at the time of his arrest. After his escape, he was found near a location where he had been seen earlier. Officials are now reviewing the circumstances surrounding his escape to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future. Shane's case has raised concerns about the security measures in place during hospital visits for detainees.
