Aimee Michael, who was sentenced to 36 years for a hit-and-run crash that killed five people, including three children, was released from prison after serving 14 years. The crash occurred on April 12, 2009, when Michael, then 22, caused a chain-reaction wreck on Camp Creek Parkway and fled the scene, later admitting to her involvement. The families of the victims, particularly Kathy Smith, who lost her daughter and grandchildren, expressed their anguish and surprise at Michael's early release, feeling that the trauma of their loss has been reopened.
