Former Atlanta High School Football Coach Sentenced to 30 Years for Murder of Maryland Nurse

Carl Kearney Jr., a former football coach at Spalding County High School, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of 38-year-old Patrina Best in Maryland. Kearney pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after admitting to strangling Best during an argument on February 17, 2024, following a dinner together. Best, a traveling nurse and member of a U.S. Navy family, was remembered as a committed healer, and her family expressed their loss to the community.
