A 61-year-old man, Phillip Adams, was killed Monday morning when a driver struck him while he was in a wheelchair being pushed by his companion, Linda Tench, 77, across a crosswalk on Academy Street in Gainesville. The incident occurred around 11 a.m., and while Adams was pronounced dead at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Tench remains hospitalized in stable condition. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Janet Villanueva, has been arrested and faces multiple charges, including first-degree vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run.
