Monroe County Man Shot After Gunfire Exchange with Deputies Outside CVS Store

On Tuesday, a man was shot in a Monroe County parking lot following an exchange of gunfire with deputies. The incident occurred at a CVS in Forsyth while deputies were attempting to apprehend 34-year-old John Monroe Barnes, who was wanted on felony terroristic threats warrants. Barnes, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a Macon hospital, and the GBI is investigating the shooting, which is the 17th officer-involved shooting they have been asked to review in 2025.
